Christmas CD coming soon

No concerts coming up this term, but we are making a Christmas CD! We will be recording our December Christmas songs in January and will let you know when they are available to buy. Contact if you are interested in purchasing - we are all very excited!

Christmas Concerts

This year we premiered new carol compositions by Lis Bayford and Lis Bayford/Les Roberts along with a selection of carols from different ages and styles. In between the carols were readings and solo performances by choir members and musical guests and traditional carols for the audience to sing too. Newnham Church was festively lit with candles and there was mulled wine and mince pies galore. The Church was full, and it definitely finished off our 10th anniversary year in style. We raised £500 for the Fynvola Foundation in Faversham.

Faversham Festival

The concert as part of the Faversham Festival - performed at St Mary's Parish Church in Faversham at 7.30pm on Tuesday 21st June was a great success - the first time we have sung at St Mary's and we were wowed by it. The accoustics are fabulous, the Church itself is a star..and we had a great audience! So thank you to all who attended, we had a great time and we hope to do it again next year - plans are already being made for the second Faversham Festival, so watch this space.

Happy Birthday Cantiana Choir!

Cantiana 10th anniversary concert at the Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne

Cantiana Choir is 10 years old this year. To celebrate, we held a 10th Anniversary Concert on Saturday 28th May at the Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne. We sang a selection of our favourites, including anthems by Rutter, folk-inspired ballads, gospel songs and pop - quite a variety! There were also solo items from members of the choir and Chrysalis, musical pieces and readings - and there was cake! The Cantiana Anniversary Cake

Thank you to all who attended, including the Mayor of Sittingbourne - you were a great audience and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Joined up singing

We have joined the Making Music network - the largest umbrella arts organisation in the UK, supporting nearly 3,000 amateur and voluntary music groups, including choirs, orchestras, music promoters, samba bands, festivals, handbell ringers, barbershop groups, brass bands, folk groups and many others.

Cantiana who?

Cantiana Choir welcomes adults of any age, creed or class who enjoy singing and like to perform in fund-raising concerts. We perform a Christmas programme in December, always at Newnham Church on the 22nd of December and often at other Churches and venues. We perform lighter music at other times of the year, mainly during the Summer, but we occasionally have a Spring show. The choir is affiliated to the Kingsdown and Creekside cluster of churches and enjoys singing for weddings and occasional special services. One aim of the Choir is to raise money for good causes, especially local ones. Last year we raised over £1600 for charitable causes.

The membership of the Choir is limited to 30, and currently we are just under that number. Members come from around the Newnham and Doddington area, Eastling, Wormshill, Faversham, Sittingbourne and even as far as Thanet. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings (7.45 - 9.45) weekly in term time at Newnham Village Hall. There is a nominal membership fee to cover the rental costs of the village hall, payable termly.

Cantiana is a member of the Swale Arts Forum

Membership

We are always interested to hear from anyone who interested in joining us, although at present we are limiting our recruiting to men - sopranos and altos are on a waiting list. The ability to read music, whilst obviously an advantage, is not essential. Please contact Lis if you are interested in joining us. We rehearse weekly on Monday evenings at Newnham Village Hall, 7.45 start - see our schedule for a list of commitments

Wedding service

We offer a wedding service to couples needing a choir in any of the 5 Benefice Churches: Doddington, Newnham, Lynsted, Wychling and Norton. We also sing at other locations, depending on distance and availability - contact Lis for more info.
