  • Next Concerts

  • We are appearing with the rest of Doddington and Newnham's greatly talented in this year's Evening of Entertainment - Summer Pick 'n Mix on Saturday July 17th, 7pm at Doddington Village Hall. A great variety of music and theatre, including the World renowned (almost!) soprano Dame Ellie Bayer-Garrett who has graciously agreed to perform again despite the unfortunate incident with the vacuum cleaner at her last performance. Local band Frayed Knot will be there along with a new Community Band formed just for the event as well as Chrysalis and others.. Tables and entertainment provided, bring your own food and drink. Tickets from Doddington Garage.

  • Cantiana who?

Cantiana Choir welcomes adults of any age, creed or class who enjoy singing. The Choir aims to enhance the well-being of its members and to nurture an understanding and outworking of the Christian faith through its affiliation to the Kingsdown and Creekside Cluster. A secondary aim of the Choir is to raise money for good causes, especially local ones. Last year we raised over £1600 for charitable causes.
Current membership of the Choir stands at 23 with just under half living in the Cluster villages. The remaining members come from Eastling, Wormshill, Faversham, Sittingbourne and Tankerton. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings (7.45 - 9.45) weekly in term time at Newnham Village Hall.
  • What did we do last year?

The first concert of the year took place on 28th March in Doddington Village Hall. Entitled ‘Springtime Singalong’ it was an afternoon event followed by tea, cake & raffle. The concert was dedicated to the memory of former member Mary Chastney. It attracted a large audience and raised £417 for Doddington Church Amenities Fund.

Our Summer Concert was entitled ‘Songs of Inspiration’ and took place at St Michael’s Church, Sittingbourne in aid of their roof appeal. A total of £354.28 was raised.
The third Cantiana ArtsFest was held at Lynsted Church on 18th July and combined a display of local arts & crafts with live music performances. This was less well attended than in previous years but raised £355.15 for Lynsted Church. The Choir also performed at St Michael’s Craft Fair in Sittingbourne in October.
The Christmas season proved very busy this year with a total of four Christmas performances. The first was an invitation from Graveney Church on 5th December. This was followed by an invitation to entertain Tunstall WI on 10th December. On the 21st December we performed and lead some carol singing at Doddington Place and finally held our annual candlelit carol concert at Newnham Church on 22nd December. This was well attended and raised £80 for Newnham Church and £428.86 for Doddington Church.
The Choir has also sung at 5 weddings: 2 at Doddington, 1 at Stalisfield, and 2 at St Michael’s, Sittingbourne
  • Men wanted!

We are always interested to hear from anyone interested in joining us. We are especially keen to recruit some gorgeous, strapping rugby-type men (or women, come to think of it) with voices like Pavarotti - but will settle for (much!) less - for those who just enjoy singing! Also, Sopranos would be ever so welcome and we would smile widely at the prospect of an Alto or two deciding we are worth a try. The ability to read music, whilst obviously an advantage, is not essential. Please contact Lis if you are interested in joining us. We rehearse weekly on Monday evenings at Newnham Village Hall, 7.45 start - see our schedule for a list of commitments
  • Wedding service
We offer a wedding service to couples needing a choir in any of the 5 Benefice Churches: Doddington, Newnham, Lynsted, Wychling and Norton. We also sing at other locations, depending on distance and availability - contact Lis for more info.
